Fellowship Newsletter Updates September 2021

Leadership development is critical in transformation of the environmental sector. The GreenMatter Fellowship aims to develop leaders and nurture talent of young innovative minds that will enhance sustainability in the sector. This is achieved through supporting fellows’ academia through financial assistance as well as developing the fellows’ personal and professional skills. A leadership training was conducted for the 10 Fellows who are sponsored by our generous funders namely, Mapula Trust, Water Research Commission and Harry Crossley. Furthermore, the fellows had a chance to engage in an entrepreneurial mindset session. The purpose of the session was to encourage the fellows to find beauty in negative spaces. An Entrepreneurial Leadership session will be held for these 10 fellows soon.​
Harry-Crossley Foundation Beneficiaries (Joshua Weeber, Ancois de Villiers, Daniel Okeyo and Mosihla Mokumo)
​An internship programme was established. Six (6) fellows were awarded internships and were placed at different companies namely Digby Wells, EnviroPro, Agribusiness Development Agency (ADA), Agricultural Research Council (ARC), Agreenco Environmental and South African National Institute (SANBI). We are grateful to have partnered up with great companies within the environmental sector who shares the same vision. The internship is a steppingstone for the fellows out of academia into the working world. Prior to the internship, the fellows went through personal and professional development to equip them with skills that would enable them to be effective and great employees in the workplace.
