GreenMatter Independent Evaluation

The BHCDS was given expression via a flagship programme of implementation. This programme was named GreenMatter.
GreenMatter was established as a partnership programme that was co-founded by SANBI and the Lewis Foundation in 2009. To fulfil this role, GreenMatter was institutionally located as a programme of the Lewis Foundation, between 2009 and 2017. Later, as an attempt to become independent of the Lewis Foundation and play a more effective role, GreenMatter was registered on 25 April 2017 as an independent Non-Profit Company (NPC).
This document encompasses the independent evaluation of GreenMatter, during its tenth year in operation. The evaluation of GreenMatter coincides with the mid-term review of the BHCDS, which is led by SANBI. The BHCDS review will provide an analysis of factors that have contributed to the strategy’s success and those that have hindered more significant achievement.  Thus, the summative evaluation of GreenMatter takes place in tandem with the review of the BHCDS, covering the period 2009 to 2019, and it aims to contribute to the BHCDS review process.
