Picture
Picture
"The world must come together to confront climate change. There is little scientific dispute that if we do nothing, we will face more drought, famine and mass displacement that will fuel more conflict for decades.”

-Barack Obama
In 2019 VVOB and GreenMatter in partnership with Fundisa for change started the Keep it Cool- Climate Change Education project. he main objective of the project is to utilise the education sector as a strategic resource in South Africa’s transition towards a more climate resilient society. KIC-CCE seeks to address climate change through education in 100 secondary schools in KZN, Eastern Cape and Limpopo, supported by multiple actors (DBE, DEFF, HEIs, NGOs at national, provincial and district level).

Teacher Support Sessions

The core component of the KIC  project is to support secondary school teachers in the teaching of climate change. A 5-day teachers training was held in the Vhembe West District in Limpopo at the Tshipise Forever Resort. 28 Teachers were supported by subject advisors from the Vhembe District Department of Education, lecturers from the University of Venda and the KIC project team.

The five day event was a success, teachers were highly motivated appreciated the opportunity. By the end of the last day of the sessions all the teachers managed to complete their portfolios.
